A new leak from China suggests that Huawei is preparing to return to its foldable phone lineup with a larger screen and a new design. Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) revealed on Weibo that one of China’s top five smartphone manufacturers has begun testing a large-screen foldable phone.
Huawei May Be Returning to the “Landscape Wide” Format!
The leak hints that the device is likely Huawei’s, and DCS also ruled out the possibility of it being the Oppo Find N6. According to the leaked information, the specifications of this new foldable device are quite ambitious:
- Main Display: 7.6 inches
- Cover Display: 5.5 inches
- Aspect Ratio: Approximately 14:10
- Processor: Flagship-level chipset (“nth-generation flagship chip”)
- Camera: It will feature a periscope telephoto camera.
- Battery: A battery capacity of just under 6,000 mAh.
DCS claims this device could be the industry’s first large-format, horizontally wide foldable phone. Huawei is no stranger to this form factor. The company’s vertically foldable model, the Pura X, was one of the first wide foldable phones in the industry, boasting a 6.3-inch main display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. This new device is expected to be wider and shorter when folded and offer a more square-like tablet-like experience when unfolded.
This new widescreen approach may be a strategic move by Huawei to counter rumors of Apple’s foldable iPhone Fold, which is rumored to have a similar aspect ratio. Leaked information suggests the iPhone Fold will also feature a 7.7-inch display and a 14.1:10 aspect ratio, making it reminiscent of a small iPad when unfolded.
